VIDEO REPORT: World Immunization Week

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo has recorded a public service announcement encouraging families to vaccinate their children.

The first-ever World Immunization Week takes place from 21-28 April 2012. UNICEF offices around the world are engaging in immunization campaigns and raising awareness about the importance of vaccines to child survival. UNICEF is the world’s largest buyer of vaccines for the world’s poorest countries, and has been supplying vaccines to children for over 50 years.

It is estimated that from 100 to 140 million girls and women have undergone some form of genital mutilation/cutting, and at least 3 million girls are at risk of undergoing the practice every year.
A concert featuring UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Angelique Kidjo presented by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in cooperation with the United Nations, UNFPA and UNICEF will take place on 28 February at UNHQ in NYC at 7 pm.
